A memorial event dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held in the Central Botanical Garden. The event was attended by Ilkin Gahramanli, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Central Botanical Garden; Advisor Nijat Babayev; Asif Mehraliyev, Head of the Laboratory of Woody Plants, PhD in Biology, and Associate Professor; Ofelia Gafarova, Head of the Laboratory of Introduction and Selection of Ornamental Plants, PhD in Biology, and Associate Professor; along with other employees of the Garden. At the beginning, the participants of the event honored the bright memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the territorial integrity of our republic and the victims of the Khojaly genocide with a minute of silence. Opening the event with an introductory speech, Ilkin Gahramanli, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Central Botanical Garden, provided information about the Khojaly genocide, which is remembered in Azerbaijan's history as one of its most horrific and tragic chapters. He said that the Azerbaijani flag has been proudly waving in the city of Khojaly for almost two years. However, the Khojaly genocide, which is one of the bloodiest pages of our history, will always remain in the memory of our people. Then, Asif Mehraliyev, Head of the Laboratory of Woody Plants, PhD in Biology, and Associate Professor, spoke in detail about the events that took place in Khojaly on the night of February 25-26, 1992. He emphasized that this act of genocide is one of the most serious crimes committed not only against the Azerbaijani people, but also against humanity as a whole. He noted that our state is taking all necessary steps to convey the truth about Khojaly to the world community and provide an objective assessment of this bloody event.
